From the vibrant sounds of Westchester, NY, to the bustling energy of New York City, Zachery Osbourne, professionally known as DJ Z-Rex, brings a lifetime of musical passion to the world of audio and performance. Zachery’s journey began with the keys and reeds – learning piano and clarinet early on, laying the foundation for a deep appreciation for sound and rhythm. Growing up, the legendary airwaves of Hot 97, 98.7 Kiss FM, and WBLS were his classroom, absorbing the masterful skills of DJ Funkmaster Flex, DJ Enuff, DJ Red Alert, and DJ Kast One. Countless hours spent dissecting the artistry of DJ Jazzy Jeff’s scratches and mixes on YouTube solidified his own ambition to master the art of the turntable.
DJ Z-Rex honed his skills behind the decks, electrifying crowds at iconic NYC venues like The 40/40 Club, Habana Outpost, Sweet Brooklyn Bar, Basquiats, and Good Behavior. His talent reached a wider audience as a mixshow DJ on both Taste Radio (now LITT Live) and Power 203, showcasing his diverse musical knowledge and seamless transitions.
But Zachery’s musical curiosity didn’t stop with DJing. Simultaneously, he developed a keen interest in the technical craft of music production and audio engineering. This led him to earn a B.S. in Audio Engineering Technology from the University of Hartford in 2017. His expertise quickly translated into collaborative work with a diverse range of artists – from Evan Lesoule and Xay Charles to the powerful lyricism of Mark Battles and the global soundscapes of Pepenazi – each project enriching his understanding of audio’s impact.
Zachery’s technical prowess has led him to impactful roles, serving as the lead audio engineer for Hudson River Park’s public events and providing critical livestream audio support at The Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem. Currently, he leverages his skills as an Audio Video Systems Engineer with FIRST Agency @ Google NYC, bringing innovation and precision to large-scale audio-visual experiences.
