Production that leaves room for a voice
R&B is the one genre where the beat's job is to get out of the way at the right moment. Everything in this collection is arranged with that in mind: drums that support rather than dominate, low end that sits under a vocal instead of fighting it, and transitions that give a singer somewhere to go.
The tempo band is tight: most of these live in the low eighties. Chill and melancholy lead the mood spread, with a solid romantic groove behind them, so the set covers a full project rather than just one register.
Who else these fit
Across this collection the closest neighbours are SiR, Ty Dolla $ign, Smino and Summer Walker.
Narrowing it down
For the specific late-night alternative R&B lane rather than the full genre, the alt-R&B collection is the tighter cut.
